Staying on top of your crazy day can be a little bit scary - there are just so many things we try to jam pack into our day, it can be difficult to keep track of it all. Organizing your hot mess doesn't have to be so overwhelming. Especially if you take care of these 5 things you need to include in your daily planner, each and every day to ensure you tick all the things off your list.
1 - A To Do List
I would be totally lost without a to do list, seriously. I can barely remember what I'm supposed to be doing when I walk into a room let alone what I'm supposed to achieve for a whole day.
I put everything on my to do list. As I cross items off, it makes me feel like I'm really achieving things throughout the day. You'd be amazed at how much more you get done when you're on a roll.
2 - A Priorities List
With every little task listed out on your to do list, it's easy to get overwhelmed with what is a priority task and what can actually wait a little longer.
Enter: The Priorities List
Keep it short and simple, I never have more than 3 priority tasks in a day. These are the things I absolutely must get done. If the only things I cross off my to do list each day are these three things then I still feel pretty darn productive for the day.
Plus, it means you are bringing to focus your priorities for the day.
3 - A Self Care Intention
We are so quick to schedule in time for others, appointments for our kids, favours for friends and family, but we rarely take time out for ourselves.
Identifying a self care intention each day means that at the very least, the idea of self care is bought up each day.
I'm not silly, I understand that some days it just can't happen. But some days it can. And unless you make the intention for self care, it just won't happen.
So be clear and carve out some time for you, even if it's something simple and just for five minutes.
4 - Exercise/Movement
When we get busy and focus on our tasks, one of the first things we let fall by the wayside is exercise. It's kind of like a viscious circle, when we stop exercising, we stop being as productive, and when we stop being as productive, we stop taking time to exercise.
You don't have to hit the gym for hours each day. A simple 10 minute workout can make a huge difference to your productivity (and your health). Get your heart rate up - extra bonus if you can get outdoors and enjoy the sunshine and fresh air too.
Adding a task of exercise or movement on your list each day means that it's right there in front of you, reminding you that it needs to be done. Make it happen.
5 - Meal Plan
I have to admit, for the longest time I thought meal planning was just something people did when they were on a budget and wanted to be super frugal. Naive of me I know.
But a friend kept talking about how amazing meal planning was so I gave it a go. Now I'm a total convert.
Having a meal plan means I don't have to think about what to have for lunch or mess around for half an hour figuring out what we are going to have for dinner. It just becomes part of the planning process. It's just a bonus that it saves a heap of money (and time).
Setting out these 5 things at the start of your day will give you a clear idea of what you need done, as well as making sure you don't forget to make some time for yourself (self-care) and it ensures you aren't reactive to your day, you're proactive about it.
